$16 Million Allocated toward SCTC Construction
The Henry County campus of Southern Crescent Technical College continues to grow! Earlier this week, Gov. Nathan Deal “allocated $16.725 million in his proposed fiscal year 2017 state budget to complete construction of Southern Crescent Technical College’s Henry County campus.” The additional funding will allow the building of “a state-of-the-art industrial technology building and labs.”
This is a big win for the county, and I am proud to have accomplished this by working alongside the other Henry County legislative delegates. I want to thank Senator Rick Jeffares, and Representatives Brian Strickland, Demetrius Douglas, and Dale Rutledge. We worked alongside each other before the 2016 Legislative Session began so that we could accomplish this huge success.
As Senator Jeffares said, Southern Crescent is “gaining the attention of people all over the state” due to the school’s “state-of-the-art training” in their technical programs, as well as their continuing education programs. The school formed in 2010 when Flint River Technical College and Griffin Technical College merged. The Henry County campus opened in June 2014, and Henry County residents have been gaining skills and education to better prepare them for the workforce ever since.
The next step is to make sure that the allocated funds will be approved by officials in the State House and the Senate. I, alongside other Henry County legislators, will keep you up-t0-date on the developments of this goal.
